Revelations and discoveries from the journey of becoming an author

22nd September 2026

My dad doesn't like talking about his early life. A trait passed down from his own father, so he tells me. It is also his protection against painful memories that would resurface. Occasionally he breaks his guard and lets me in on snippets and vignettes of another world. Another time where life was so different that even his innocuous or mundane activities sound amazing.

I’ve asked him many times to write his story down as preserved anecdotes for his descendants, to show us, his family, who he was and how life has changed and how it has stayed the same.

But no. That wall is still too impenetrable — for now. I’m still encouraging him — whilst there is still time.

Have you ever wondered how to let your own family know you? Who you really are — or were — deep down below that surface that only you know about.

I did. Which is why I wrote The Father's Lectures. If you have too, then I hope the contents of this page will help you to start.
